Castanets @ Grand Palace

Although I didnt get many pics due to my camera dying, I must say this was one damned good show to be held in a record store in Murfreesboro, TN. A friend of mine and I were trying to figure out exactly how we would pinpoint what genre Castanets would fall under. If you have heard the latest album and seen them live, you know there is a dramatic difference. The album leads you to believe the show is going to be mellow, but its more of a noise extravaganza. I ended up picking up the limited edition 12' in the process of this show. As I listen to it I melt in joy

Ryan Adams to release 3rd album in 05'

Ryan Adams has had to say the least a prolific year. Like him or not, you have to admire a man that can pop out 3 albums in one year - 3 GOOD albums in one year. His last one of the year "29" is due out the 20th of December with virtually no publicity at all and is going to feature a so-called 9-9 minute stories (although only one reaches the 9 minute mark) and each song on the album (there are 9 tracks) is going to be about a different year of his 20's. He will also be dropping the Cardinals for this last one and taking matters into his own hands. Im highly looking forward to this release and im still trying to figure out how this man didnt make many year end lists. I guess his hipster status just isnt as good these days.

iTunes + Cat Power

We all know Miss Chan Marshall is going to be one of the most talked about artists of 2006. Hell, she already is one of the most talked about artists period. Cat Power has released an exclusive track through iTunes that is the B-Side off her 45-inch "The Greatest." The track is called Hate and if you have an extra 99 cents floating around your place you should head on over to iTunes and get this track. Its way more rewarding than that 1/3 gallon of gas. I promise.

Richard Pryor Dead at 65

Although I was never a huge Richard Pryor fan (not by choice, just because I never gave it much of a chance) its without a doubt he was one of the most comical genius' on the planet. Although his career took an odd turn in the 60s into the world of taboo and everything odd, his mark left in the 60's influenced basically any comedian you can name that came after him. God Bless Mr. Pryor

Bragg now has something to bragg about!

"Trying to change the world by singing about it is a dirty business... but someone has to do it" --- Billy Bragg , 1988

On February 21st of the new year - Yep Roc plans on reissuing four of the English Pop Icon Billy Bragg's back-catalogue titles including unreleased material. They also plan on releasing a 9-disc box set that will include a booklet, 7 audio CDS and 2 DVDs of live footage. Also, there are now 4 official live bootlegs off of Billy's website. Check them out. This will be my ultimate buy of 2006 if I can pull the money together. Donations taken!

Follow the Train

So Louisville is popping out another band on the label responsible for My Morning Jackets start... Darla Records. They may not be quite as ambitious as MMJ, but they have their upsides.. Ive been waiting anxiously for their new album to be released and they announced it will be released sometime in the February/March region of 2006. I had a chance to see them at the Radio Cafe here in Nashville a few weeks ago and although the PA kept cutting it.. it was still a good performance. Look out for these guys (and girl) in the near future.
